Acid and Neutral Refractory Bricks

  • Southway Refractories supplies various specialized bricks suitable for both acidic and basic linings. Neutral bricks, including high alumina and chromite bricks, resist acidic fumes and corrosive actions and are used to separate acid and basic furnace linings.
  • High Alumina Bricks: Contain high amounts of alumina for neutral lining purposes.
  • Chromite Bricks: Made from chrome iron ore, iron oxide, bauxite, and silica; resist temperatures up to 2000°C.
  • Carborundum Bricks: Contain high silicon carbide; used in electric furnaces; resist up to 1900°C.
  • Chrome Magnesite Bricks: Made from a mixture of chrome and magnesite.
  • Spinal Bricks: Produced from alumina and magnesia in equal proportions.
  • Forsterite Bricks: Made from magnesium silicate (2MgO·SiO2).
  • These bricks are primarily used for lining furnaces and protecting against chemical corrosion, rather than for fire-resistance purposes.

Basic Refractory Bricks

  • These bricks offer excellent corrosion and chemical resistance, containing high magnesia content with lime as a binder. Common types include magnesite bricks, magnesia-carbon bricks, and magnesia-chrome bricks.
  • Magnesite Bricks: Made from 85% magnesium oxide with small amounts of iron oxide, lime, and alumina; used as essential furnace lining; resist temperatures of 1800–2100°C.
  • Dolomite Bricks: Made from high dolomite content with serpentine for strength; an economical alternative to magnesite bricks; resist 1400–1600°C.
  • Bauxite Bricks: Made from 86% bauxite; resist temperatures up to 1600°C.
  • These basic bricks are primarily used for lining furnaces where chemical and corrosion resistance is required.
